Close collaboration between homeowner and builder resulted in a dream custom home perched at the water’s edge.

Built on a rocky waterfront, these homeowners prioritized enjoyment of the outdoors in their vision of a forever home. While living in the Middle East, they developed a deep appreciation of the ability to enjoy their natural surroundings year-round and incorporated that into the home’s design.

It was clear from the outset that Horizon was committed to ensuring we got the home we wanted. We knew we could always reach someone at the company if we had questions or needed something addressed

The homeowners studied the layout and topography of the lot and worked with Horizon through the custom design process and construction to fit the house within it. Utilizing innovative construction techniques, the house was positioned to preserve neighbouring views without sacrificing features or design.

The spectacular infinity pool and hot tub are positioned on a natural plateau and the water-facing façade is curved, mimicking the shape of the lot and maximizing the oceanfront view. Ten-foot ceilings on the main floor open to a fifteen-foot ceiling in the front room drawing people through to the front of the house.

There are a total of seventeen skylights positioned throughout the home including the laundry room, powder room, and closets. A catwalk on the third floor maintains the home’s open feeling and airflow.

Designed to be enjoyed by three generations, the home’s elevator is an aging-in-place feature that ensures everyone can access the rooftop patio; an entertaining space with a small bar and fireplace. The garage features a car elevator increasing the usability of the garage’s lower level.

The house features an adaptation of the windcatcher design used extensively in the Middle East. Windows on the home’s top level not only let in light throughout the day but are also a passive cooling element to help regulate the house temperature in the summer.
